Route from the Montfalcó walkways to the suspension bridge, in the surroundings of the Congost de Mont-rebei. A trail featuring wooden stairs and walkways over the gorge, with stunning views of the Canelles reservoir
The route is located in the Montsec area, within the Congost de Mont-rebei, a spectacular gorge that forms the natural border between Aragon and Catalonia, next to the Canelles reservoir.
Vehicle access ends at the Montfalcó parking area, where the hiking route begins. From this point onwards there is no further track: the trail starts directly from the parking area.
The path begins gradually, with a well-marked trail that crosses low woodland and mountain terrain. It is an easy start that allows you to ease into the surroundings without technical difficulty.
Little by little, the landscape becomes more rugged, with more exposed rock and steeper slopes, until reaching the key point of the route.
The Montfalcó walkways are the most characteristic and well-known feature of the hike.
They consist of wooden structures anchored directly into the rock, allowing progress through vertical sections where a natural path is not possible.
The route includes:
Steep wooden ladders
Suspended walkways over the ravine
Narrow sections along the rock face
Open views of the Congost de Mont-rebei and the Canelles reservoir.
It is a very scenic experience with a constant sense of height, but it is currently well maintained and clearly signposted.
The landscape combines rock walls, low woodland areas, and wide views over the reservoir. It is a high-mountain environment, with a strong contrast between water, rock, and vegetation.
At the end of the route, you reach the suspension bridge over the ravine, a very photogenic spot and one of the usual turning points of the hike.
From here you can:
Return along the same route.
Or continue deeper into the Congost de Mont-rebei on a longer and more demanding route.
There are two interesting variations along the route:
A short detour with open views of the surroundings. A peaceful spot to take a break.
A short and easy access in a more remote mountain setting.
The walkways have been renovated and are in good condition. It is a very popular route and well signposted, especially during peak season
Not suitable for people with vertigo
Hiking footwear required
Bring enough water for the entire route
Avoid rainy or humid days
Exercise caution on ladders and exposed sections
In summer, start the hike early in the morning
